KAMPALA — The Buganda Kingdom has unveiled a Shs409.315 billion budget for the 2026/27 financial ye setting out an ambitious spending plan aimed at strengthening administration, preserving cultural heritage and expanding socio-economic development programmes across the kingdom.
The budget, presented on Monday by the Kingdom’s finance and planning officials, outlines key priorities in education, health, youth empowerment, revenue mobilisation and institutional development.
A substantial share of the allocation will finance the operations of kingdom institutions, including schools, health facilities, cultural sites and community development initiatives implemented through Buganda’s county administrative structures.
Kingdom officials said the budget is designed to improve service delivery while enhancing the efficiency of internal governance systems and increasing locally generated revenue to support long-term sustainability.
The financial plan also prioritises grassroots development through programmes targeting youth and women, alongside initiatives intended to strengthen economic participation within communities across Buganda.
Officials noted that preserving Buganda’s cultural identity remains central to the budget, with funds earmarked for the maintenance and development of key historical and cultural sites under the kingdom’s stewardship.
The kingdom also intends to continue modernising its administrative systems while deepening collaboration with the central government, private sector and development partners to accelerate development projects.
Observers say the Shs409.315 billion budget reflects Buganda’s growing role beyond cultural leadership, positioning the kingdom as an important player in community mobilisation, education, healthcare and socio-economic development in central Uganda.
Implementation of the budget will begin during the 2026/27 financial year through the kingdom’s ministries and local administrative structures.
