KAMPALA — MTN Uganda chairman Charles Mbire will on Friday headline SBG Securities’ first Investor Day, an event the Stanbic Uganda Holdings subsidiary is using to court more Ugandans into the country’s financial markets.
The forum, which will be streamed live on Stanbic Uganda’s YouTube channel from 12pm, comes as investment firms and banks step up efforts to attract retail investors amid growing interest in alternatives to ordinary savings accounts, including unit trusts, equities, and government securities.
SBG Securities said the event will start with its Annual General Meeting for unit trust clients before opening into a two-hour public discussion on investment opportunities, personal finance and wealth creation.
The company’s chief executive, Grace Semakula, said the event is intended to address what he described as an information gap that keeps many Ugandans out of the financial markets.
“Investor Day is designed to create a platform where investors, business leaders, SUHL shareholders and economically active Ugandans can engage in meaningful conversations about opportunities within Uganda’s financial markets and the broader economy,” Semakula said.
“As more Ugandans seek ways to grow their savings and secure their financial futures, we believe access to information and expert insights is critical in helping them make informed investment decisions,” he added.
The event highlights SBG Securities’ push to expand its profile in Uganda’s investment market, where it has grown its assets under management and maintained a strong position in stock brokerage. The growth is part of Stanbic Uganda Holdings’ broader strategy to diversify beyond commercial banking through subsidiaries focused on investment and financial services.
Mbire is expected to speak about regional economic growth, private sector development and the role of investment in long-term wealth creation.
His address will be followed by a panel discussion on how Ugandans can use financial markets to build wealth.
The panel will include Stanbic Bank Uganda executive director Samuel Fredrick Mwogeza, Bank of Uganda economist Pumla Nabachwa and Uganda Retirement Benefits Regulatory Authority director of supervision and market conduct Daisy Nabakooza.
Mwogeza is expected to speak about wealth management and estate planning, while Nabachwa will tackle personal financial management, diversification and financial literacy. Nabakooza will discuss retirement planning and the contribution of financial markets to national development.
The forum comes at a time when financial institutions are increasingly targeting retail investors with products such as unit trusts and government securities, as they seek to tap into a growing pool of savers looking for higher returns amid rising living costs and changing investment habits.
