Police in Nsangi have intensified operations to combat crime in Kyengera and surrounding neighbourhoods, resulting in the arrest of 32 suspects accused of theft and related offences.
The operation covered several areas, including Kyengera Central, Nabaziza, Masanda and Kinaawa, following complaints from residents over rising cases of insecurity.
According to Uganda Police Force Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, all suspects are currently being screened to establish their individual involvement in the alleged crimes.
“Some of the suspects will be released if evidence is insufficient, while others will be processed through the courts,” Owoyesigyire said.
Police said the suspects are implicated in a series of crimes, including theft from pedestrians along major roads, house break-ins, and the violent robbery of money, mobile phones and other valuables.
The crackdown forms part of a wider strategy by the Uganda Police Force to curb growing insecurity in the area.
Residents have welcomed the operation, saying nighttime thefts and attacks had become a serious concern.
“We are grateful to the police for taking action. Life at night is now a bit safer,” said a local trader.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police post, emphasising that community cooperation is vital to sustaining peace and security in Kyengera and neighbouring areas.
