Kampala — Police in Kampala have arrested a suspected robber and recovered Shs21 million believed to have been stolen during a recent incident in the city.
The arrest followed an intelligence-led operation conducted by detectives attached to the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and officers from the Kampala Metropolitan Police.
Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the suspect was apprehended after investigators received credible information linking him to a robbery involving a businessman.
According to police, the victim had reported that he was attacked by unknown individuals who robbed him of a large sum of money intended for business transactions.
“Acting on intelligence, our officers tracked down one of the suspects. A search conducted upon arrest led to the recovery of Shs21 million in cash, suspected to be proceeds of the robbery,” Owoyesigyire said.
Investigators believe the suspect may have been part of a larger criminal network targeting individuals carrying large sums of cash in the city.
Police said the suspect is currently detained as investigations continue, and efforts are underway to arrest other members of the suspected gang.
Authorities have also cautioned members of the public to remain vigilant and avoid moving with large sums of money without proper security arrangements.
The suspect is expected to be charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit a felony once investigations are completed.
