Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited has announced an extensive recruitment drive, advertising more than 180 vacancies across its operations to bolster capacity in electricity distribution and rural electrification services.
In a detailed job advert released this week, the state-owned utility listed over 180 positions cutting across engineering, finance, customer service, administration, and field operations, signalling one of its largest hiring exercises in recent years.
The bulk of the openings is concentrated in technical roles critical to power distribution. These include nine technicians in operations and maintenance (O&M), eight GIS technicians, and several engineering positions, including planning engineers, protection and control engineers, and substation maintenance technicians. Additional slots are available for meter technicians, cybersecurity officers, and SAP systems specialists.
On the commercial and administrative side, UEDCL is recruiting for roles in procurement, internal audit, human resources, communications, and customer experience. Notably, the company is also seeking senior personnel, including a manager for strategy and business performance, regional commercial managers, and quality assurance experts for its pole treatment plant.
The advert further indicates demand in customer-facing units, with multiple positions in contact centre operations, billing, and complaints management — areas seen as key to improving service delivery.
UEDCL, incorporated under the Companies Act, manages and operates electricity distribution networks above 33kV and low voltage on behalf of the government. The company also plays a central role in implementing rural electrification schemes, a mandate that has expanded significantly amid Uganda’s push for universal electricity access.
The recruitment drive comes at a time when demand for reliable power supply continues to rise, driven by urbanisation, industrial growth, and increased household connections.
“All applications must be submitted online,” the notice states, emphasising that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. The deadline for submission is set for Friday, May 8, 2026, at 5:00 PM, with applications directed to the company’s careers portal.
Successful candidates will be based at various operational units, including the UEDCL Tower in Nakasero, Kampala, and field stations across the country.
The large-scale hiring initiative is expected to draw significant interest from job seekers, particularly in Uganda’s competitive labour market, where opportunities in the energy sector remain highly sought after.
