UBOS ED Mukiza calls for establishment of data recovery centers

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics Executive Director, Dr. Chris N. Mukiza, has asked statistics data officers across the region to establish data recovery centers to avoid the loss of key figures of different findings.

Addressing the fourth Session of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Statistics Committee meeting in Mombasa, Kenya, Dr Mukiza made remarks at the meeting aimed to review progress on implementing the IGAD Regional Strategy for Development Statistics and discuss ways to strengthen the IGAD Regional Statistics System.

“Establishing data backup and disaster recovery centers is crucial to safeguard critical information,” he urged. Dr. Mukiza emphasized the importance of data security, highlighting that data loss is a significant risk for National Statistics Offices.

The meeting brought together experts to discuss strategic directions for statistical development and explore mechanisms for long-term sustainability. Key topics included reviewing progress, strengthening the regional statistics system, and ensuring sustainability of statistical activities.
