Police in Kireka have arrested Aliya Nakimera, the prime suspect in the murder of Moses Omaido, a senior human resource official attached to the Local Government Finance Commission, in a case that has drawn widespread attention across Wakiso District.
Nakimera, who was previously in a relationship with the deceased, was apprehended after reportedly fleeing to Mityana District shortly after the incident. Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the arrest, noting that she remains in custody and will be formally charged as investigations continue.
The arrest comes days after police detained Agadi Oliver, who was Omaido’s partner at the time of his death, to assist with inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
According to statements recorded by police, tensions had reportedly built up on the night before the incident when Agadi found Nakimera at Omaido’s residence in Mbalwa, Kira Municipality. The two women are said to have spent the night under the same roof.
Investigators say the situation escalated the following morning, March 26, when Omaido was preparing to leave for work. It is alleged that Nakimera attempted to stop him from leaving, sparking a confrontation that turned violent.
Agadi told police she was in the bathroom during the altercation and did not witness the stabbing. However, she reported that upon coming out, she noticed blood coming from the bedroom area, while both Omaido and Nakimera were no longer inside the house.
The body of Omaido was later discovered along a path near his home, lying in a pool of blood with a deep stab wound to the lower neck, close to the chest.
Omaido was serving as Principal Human Resource Officer at the Local Government Finance Commission at the time of his death. Colleagues describe him as a committed public servant who had previously worked with Ngora and Oyam district local governments, and also held roles at the Uganda National Bureau of Standards and the Uganda National Meteorological Authority.
Police say inquiries into the case are ongoing, with more details expected as the investigation unfolds.
