The Parliamentary Appointments Committee has vetted Samuel Akena following his reappointment as Deputy Commissioner General of Prisons.
The committee, chaired by Speaker Anita Annet Among, reviewed Akena’s nomination during a session held at the Parliament of Uganda as part of the mandatory scrutiny process for senior government appointments.
During the vetting exercise, committee members examined Akena’s professional background, leadership record and suitability to continue serving in the senior position within the Uganda Prisons Service.
Following the session, the committee indicated that its report and recommendations would be forwarded to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for further action.
Under Uganda’s parliamentary procedures, the Appointments Committee reviews presidential nominations and advises the President before the final confirmation of such appointments.
If confirmed, Akena will continue serving on the leadership team responsible for overseeing prison administration, security and rehabilitation programmes across the country.
